SUT School Visit Program – SMA N 6 Yogyakarta

On August 10, 2017 Dr. Jerome Donovan (Senior Lecturer, Swinburne Melbourne), Dr. George Ngui (Senior Lecturer, Swinburne Sarawak), and Agnes Pranugrahaning (Phd Candidate and Student Ambassador from Swinburne Sarawak) visited SMA Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. Approximately 60 students attended the public lecture delivered by Dr. Donovan and Dr. Ngui. While Dr. Donovan underlined the global challenges that young people in Indonesia will embrace in the next five to ten years, Dr. Ngui revealed some important skills that students need to have in order to be successful in their future careers.
Following Dr. Donovan and Dr. Ngui talks, Hans Bastian Wangsa, presented his outstanding research work which led to an international award. His electronic experimental work, providing a solution due to massive number of motorbike riders in Indonesia, won an award in an international completion held in Japan. Dr. Jerome and Dr. George gave their feedback after trying Hans’ prototype product.
The 1.5 session was closed by Q&A session led by Agnes. Dr. Donovan and Dr. Ngui addressing questions from students including how to choose relevant education pathways. They explained that different universities have different focuses. It is crucial for students to choose a higher education provider that will prepare them with skills and knowledge to be leading in their future career competition, which is in particular, entrepreneurial skills.
